Richard started working in a restaurant in a Toowoomba Queensland, with 2 sisters while studying his Bachelor of Business in Hospitality Management. Both sisters had extraordinary gifts in running the front and back of house and ran a busy and profitable business. Richard was a waiter at the time, studying accounting and was able to work closely with the owners in delivering customer service; learn about the exhaustive practicalities and demands to running a successful business; and contribute to process improvements which enabled key performance data to be retained for timely profit & loss reporting and analysis to the business owners.
This period of time was pivatol to defining Richard as a finance professional with a passion captured in a genuine desire to support entrepeneurs reep the rewards of their hard work; not to over engineer business processes and systems - keep it simple; the hard work and pressures endured by business owners often attibuted to adminsitration which can often distract the focus from the core purpose of the busness undertaking causing immense frustration; and the importance to delivering a quality product, exceptional customer service whilst retaining an openness to new ideas, innovation and continual improvement.
Richard was able to complete his post graduate studies in Master of Professional Accounting, become a CPA and take these enduring business principles with him to future senior financial management roles with Club Crocodile Holdings, Troon Golf Aisa/Pacific, NRM Regional Groups, Surf Life Saving Queensland and Autism Queensland.
The creation of RDM Strategic Advisory is the ultimate step in Richard realizing his own goal to developing and managing his own business. He seeks to share his extensive experiences with small to medium sized business owners wanting back of house support to further optimising the financial performance of the business operation.
